It's not unfashionable, it's just a different opinion. Stop being so precious.

I know it's unfashionable, but I think our defence has been ok so far (Apart from Cresswell against Newcastle).

I think Diop and Ogbonna have played well. I think Fredders has arguably been our best player in the 2 games.

The whole midfield against Newcastle was diabolical. Fabianksi shit himself and cost us the all important first goal in that game too but we just played collectively shit.

In the game at the weekend the world class Rice lost his man for the first and Yarmers for his second. It's the job of the Manager and coaches to coach these individual errors out of players games.

I'm not saying we don't need new centre halves, but I don't see our 2 losses down to them.

Why are any of you surprised? this is a continuation of a season that ended 5 weeks ago. We are, once again, going to be relying on there being 3 shitter sides than us. Two are shaping up nicely in WBA and Fulham, can't rely on the 3rd being Southampton. So another season of looking over our shoulder, relying on other sides to beat WBA and Fulham and hoping a 3rd shit side materialises so that we finish 16th or 17th and then off we go again in season 21/22, rinse and repeat.

Seems like Arsenal's sorry performance against us hugely flattered us and looks like it's misleading out fans also.

Be honest we have a modus operandi in the PL whereby we concede more than we score with the notable exception of the Bilic first season.

In that respect Moyes is not significantly different to the majority of our past managers or indeed 60% of PL mangers season by season.

We were definitely more competitive on Saturday night than the week before and against a much better team too. Our sorry performance against Newcastle hugely flattered them and mislead their fans as well. Brighton introduced the Geordies to the real world with a thumping.

Re: ⚽ Arsenal v West Ham - Official Match Thread
We do have a habit of conceding goals under him, we also had that under Pellers, even when the going was good. It's that 2 bob cunt of a defence (including the centre backs) that is the problem, and no amount of coaching is going to change that.

I don't want him as our manager, but he is here, and I'm going to wait until he has got in a couple of defenders before getting the daggers out. We were shit against Newcastle, we were good Saturday, and I'm hopeful of those players coming in before the Wolves game which should make us so much more competitive.

We'll just forget one of the biggest duds we've just sold this summer (for a £7.5m loss) was a MOYES purchase, shall we?

Because one manager was given more free reign than any other West Ham manager in recent history to shape a squad in his mold, while the other is working with his hands tied behind his back, with the previous managers dud players and no money to spend because the previous manager spent it all in said dud players.

Re: ⚽ Arsenal v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Moyes does have a knack of conceding 2 goals a game regular as clockwork even in games like Saturday where we otherwise played well.
That means we need to score 3 at least to win most games.
We managed 4 against Norwich who had given up & against Chelsea (1 disallowed wrongly) who have a poor defence & an incompetent manager.
We seem no closer to sorting that out with our coaching team.
No one is scoring worldies against us ... it’s just laziness and basic errors. Over and over

You can blame VAR, the ref or anything else but I doubt we'll see a more winnable game before November. We blew it.

I think moyes gets a pretty good deal considering the last manager was labelled by some as the worst ever, yet had a better points per game record than moyes. all those 16 hour days seem to be making very little difference

"Reality is pre-lockdown we were playing some excellent football and were unlikely to have been in a relegation scrap had the season continued."

What? We only managed 4 points from the 9 games preceding lockdown! A relegation scrap was already guaranteed. It was only the fact that we played 3 of the worst teams in our last 4 games that we survived at all. I'll give that to Moyes though. Historically he can usually get points off teams who are far worse than his. Never many points from equal or better teams though, whatever club he's been at.

I’d say Moyes gets it far too easy from most fans.

He’s very lucky we have awful owners as majority agree they are the biggest problem.

I have never been a fan of Moyes but I do believe he gets a raw deal from many on here.
Reality is pre-lockdown we were playing some excellent football and were unlikely to have been in a relegation scrap had the season continued. Post lockdown we started badly but picked up well enough to move clear of the bottom three, he did what the garbage in the boardroom had asked of him.

This season was to have been one of moving away from big money signings and towards young, hungry and talented players allegedly with the agreement of the board. Once again the latter proved themselves liars by selling Diangana who fitted the 'agreed' profile perfectly. Now Moyes tells us he would like 3/4 players in this window but realises money is tight so again the board is shifting its position. Moyes is echoing what everyone on this website is demanding so he can hardly be blamed for that.

As for the Arsenal match we weren't just unlucky we were cheated by bloody var and a poor referee again. Having seen other penalties given over the weekend ours was clearly a penalty, in fact one view of the Bowen trip suggested we may have had a second. We were screwed last season by var (and those who control it) and the future using it does not look any different. We were much better Saturday and if the lousy owners lived up to their promises and brought in the players both Moyes, and the fans, want we could still have a decent season. They did promise him support if he kept us up so they should bloody well provide it particularly if they don't like being called liars!!

Re: ⚽ Arsenal v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Exactly that Lily, we press much more under Moyes than we ever did under Pellegrini but we run out of steam around 75 minutes because he doesn’t have the players on the bench to change it.

Every recent match thread that Haller, Anderson or Lanzini have started or come on to change the game will be full of comments of how lazy and ill disciplined they are, it’s not rocket science they are not players you can trust in the Premiership.

Sir Alf 12:11 Mon Sep 21
Re: ⚽ Arsenal v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Conceding 2 goals a game is indeed one major problem.

I guess its why Moyes says the defence needs improving.

The use of Haller and Anderson is also restricted by the squad imbalance IMHO. We seem to get overrun and outplayed in midfield by most teams when we have only 4 in there. So Moyes, being Moyes always reverts to safety first with 5 in the midfield which in games where we cannot counter we struggle more ( which is arguably why we look best against teams that are pushing forward in numbers and not sitting deep - hence why Wolves will be a different proposition and we are at home with the onus on us to attack ) . Having the 5 in midfield also means lack of support for Antonio and him getting "smothered" as per the Newcastle game although in that game our 5 including Noble were outrun and out played played in the middle of the park.

Its why I bore everyone sh*tless about the need for more mobility/pace/work rate allied to good passing of course in midfield. You have that and all of a sudden you can release the flair players and support 2 up front. Not sure Moyes would do it mind but can see why he doesn't at the moment.

Wolves will sit deeper on Saturday and look to Traore etc. to counter against us when our slow build up and inability to stretch them results in us losing it in midfield or we are pushed deep into their half on a corner or set piece. Failing that, our limited squad and "legs" in the team means we inevitably tire about 60 - 70 mins in. We concede and then pop 2 more forward looking players on in desperation and low and behold get caught out with less cover in midfield etc and concede again.

The unbalanced / poor blend in the squad is the biggest problem and has been since we returned to the Premiership which points to recruitment failure, lack of strategy/long term plan , constant Yoyo of manager from "attrition" (BFS/Moyes) to "expansive" (Bilic/Pellegrini) .

We still have no left back option of quality (Cresswell was better Saturday with the more mobile Arfur in front but is barely adequate), only 1 CB of quality, lacks mobile/box-to-box options in midfield and lacks a strong pacy front man other than the adapted winger that is Antonio.

We need reinforcements desperately or likely go down.
